Wikipedia says it is a type of performance based marketing in which a business rewards one(the affiliate) for each visitor or customer brought by the affiliate’s own marketing efforts.
Put more simply the affiliate builds a business by promoting other people’s(and their own) products and services and getting paid a commission when a sale is fulfilled.
There are literally thousands of so called programs available on the internet to get one involved as an affiliate marketer.
With the onset of the internet, Internet Marketing has grown into a viable “work from” home occupation.
In very simple terms internet marketing is a business whereby you promote items on a website and when someone visits the website and buys one of the items you get paid a commission.
It sounds simple,but in fact it can be quite complicated, particularly understanding the complexities of getting your website to the forefront if search engines like Google.
If you are looking for a secondary income or indeed giving up the day job altogether then internet marketing may be the way forwar
Is it a scam?
The problem is that many of them are scams and you have to be careful that you don’t get duped into spending money on schemes which don’t actually work.
A true story
I once received a video link by e-mail and decided to watch it. it went on for about 45 minutes during which time the host demonstrated his ‘special code’ which would generate over $1,000 per hour just by pressing 5 keys on your computer.
He repeated many times that the code was absolutely free. When I tried to get it, it was in fact $42. The subsequent training was more than $5,000!!
I would like to meet anyone who has been successful with this code.

A Good Start
Like any business a good place to start is to draw up a business plan.
Let’s say for the sake of argument you were about to start a business and needed a loan from the bank to get it started. Before any banker would give you a loan he or she would want to look at your business plan, which would of course include how the loan was to be paid back.
